Lewis, John Fred - 1971 A well-known Libertyville farmer was killed in a farm accident Friday. He was driving a tractor which overturned, pinning him beneath the machine and inflicting fatal injuries. John Fred Lewis, Sr. was a native of Mine LaMotte and his daughter, Donna Chapman, was a long-time employee of the New Era Bank in Fredericktown, a sister and a brother also live in this city. Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 15 at the Libertyville Christian Church with the Rev. Dale Ferguson officiating. He was assisted by Rev. Mike Heston. Interment was in the Libertyville Christian Cemetery under the direction of Miller Service, Farmington. John F. Lewis was born July 2, 1900, a son of the late John Lewis and Mary Miller Lewis and died Nov. 12 at the age of 71. In addition to his widow, Stella Caruthers Lewis, Route 3, Farmington; he is survived by a daughter, Donna (Mrs. Charles Chapman), and a son, Fred Lewis, Jr., both of Route 3, Farmington. Also surviving are four sisters, Mrs. Anna Watts, Matoon, Ill; Mrs. George Crump, Leadwood; Mrs. Claude Patch, Detroit, Mich.; Mrs. Ernest Scott, Fredericktown; a brother, Jeff Lewis, Fredericktown and three grandchildren.
